This is the first in a series of fund updates to reflect on the generosity of donors in the community and to share the impact being made by the funds at the Community Foundation.
In early 2020, The Sandra Zink Memorial Scholarship was started thanks to a $5,000 gift from an anonymous donor and a partnership with The Galena Federation of Teachers. Ms. Zink had passed away suddenly just a couple of months earlier.
The Sandra Zink Memorial Scholarship was established to honor Ms. Zink’s dedication and commitment to teaching the Sciences at the Galena High School and her years of dedicated service, helping her students not only in the Sciences but also in their everyday lives. Ms. Zink loved and helped her students in and out of the classroom.
Shortly after launching the fund, The Community Foundation received additional gifts to honor Ms. Zink, growing the fund to nearly $10,000. This has led to six scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each to students going into the sciences or education field who are graduating from Galena High School.
Today, The Community Foundation and the Galena Federation of Teachers, continue to accept gifts that will help even more students attend college and carry on Ms. Zink's legacy in the sciences and education fields.
“We hope the community will join us in celebrating Ms. Zink’s love of teaching and her students by making a gift to The Sandra Zink Memorial Scholarship.” Federation Treasurer, Mary Calfee.
Memorial gifts can be made online on the Community Foundation website at www.cfjodaviess.com or by mailing a check made out to the Community Foundation of Jo Daviess County, P.O. Box 77, Elizabeth, IL 61028. Please write Zink Scholarship in the memo.
