There's a free pancake breakfast on Oct 14.

Read on to learn more about the food pantries in Jo Daviess County

In 2020, during the pandemic, we started learning about how the food pantries in Jo Daviess County work. It turns out, they are each individually run by dedicated local volunteers in each community across the county.

More than 2,000 people in Jo Daviess County are hungry and don't know where at least one of their daily meals is coming from. Without the volunteers who are running the food pantries, more than 2,000 would have a very hard time finding the food they need to survive.

You can find a food pantry by visiting the Food Pantries of Jo Daviess County page on Facebook. You can get all of the details about hours, transportation, etc. on the Facebook page, but here are some highlights.

Food Pantry Locations

Apple River (4th Wednesday, 4-6p) 105 Prairie Street - or by appt; call Sally 815-594-2252

Here's how you can help

  1. Volunteer at one of the food pantries above! Come learn more at the pancake breakfast or reach out to the pantry you'd like to help.

  2. Make a cash donation to fund the food pantries - they can buy food from a food bank for less than the cost of food at the grocery store - so your food donations are good, but your cash donations buy lots more food than you can on your own.

  3. Spread the word! Share this post with your friends and family so they can help too, and share it with anyone you know is in need so they can get the food they need.

To keep our food pantries running, we need more volunteers. Find out how you can help at the Pancake Breakfast in Hanover on October 14.
